We think that Andre is going to be placed in the Sunnyside (Grandview, actually) office. We live too far away, so we are going to have to move. At first I thought we were going to have to live in Benton City, but I think we'll be able to stay a little closer to Kennewick, actually. Yay.
We've been busy with Halloween-related activities. The girls are going to be pirates this year. I will post pictures. They went to Ryker's birthday party at the pumpkin patch last Thursday and then we went to the pumpkin patch as a family on Saturday. Fun times....hay mountain to climb, hay bale maze to walk through, then a hay ride out to the pumpkin patch. We got six pumpkins, I think, so then we had a ton of carving to do when we got home. Andre and the girls bought a couple of those pattern kits--one your typical Halloween stuff and then the other is Disney princesses. So, we now have 1 pumpkin with Cinderella and a rose on it, 1 with Cinderellas' pumpkin carriage, and 1 with Ariel. Then we have one with a moon and some bats and 1 that says "the martinez family."
I have to get to work on my National Board stuff now. My Entry 4 stuff is due tomorrow for a reading by my cohort leader...not that any of you reading this blog know what all that means. Good times. Oh, it's my favorite commercial. Progressive insurance advertising to my motorcylce riders...it's hilarious. I shouldn't be watching TV right now, either.

Working on a day off...good stuff...
Today was a state professional day, which means that we have the option of either taking the day off or taking advantage of professional development opportunities throughout the state. Obviously, students have the day off. Anyway, Kami and I met at school to work on our National Board stuff. Ugh. We are working on Entry 4 right now, which is called "documented accomplishments." The gist of it is that I have to prove how the things that I do outside the classroom impact (and improve) student learning. Now, this sounds like it would be simple, but then you actually try to write the entry. That's the UGH part of it. However, I felt like I made really good progress today, which is a relief. I need to get this thing written so that my cohort leader can read it (and rip it apart) and then I can fix it and have her read it again by the end of October.
Our new furniture was delivered today. Yay. We got an amoire (sp?) and one of those leather ottoman/coffee table things for the living room upstairs and a stand for the TV downstairs. All of it is a big improvement over the stuff we used to have...nothing. Haha. We're finally getting this gigantic place put together, and we could end up moving in the next few months depending on where the State Patrol puts Andre. Ironic!
As I type this, I'm watching the old movie Parenthood. You know, the one with Todd (Keanu Reeves) and Julie (the girl from Goonies) who "record their love" and then Julie's mom picks up the pictures?! It's a good movie. They've been playing it on HBO lately. Unfortunately, it's not a kid movie (PG-13) and the girls are down here playing with their toys, but paying more attention than I realized. Victoria just repeated a line...."Looking hot....looking damn hot." Apparently the emphasis and the fact that a teenager was saying it in the show made her realize that it's something that she shouldn't repeat. That's lovely. I changed the channel.

OMG...I have a follower
Ok, so I didn't realize that it would tell me when I have a "follower" of my blog. How fun is that?! The girls' Brandie has started her own blog, so now we can "follow" each other. She and Kent just had a baby boy, Jaxon, and he is super cute!!!!
I finished the girls' Halloween costumes last night. They are going to be pirates. I can't wait for Halloween and am glad that they will have several opportunities to wear their costumes (school, trick-or-treating, a party, etc.) b/c I spent a lot of time on those things! :-) They are pretty excited about them, but are quick to remind me that they still need eye patches. Apparently the get-up is not complete without one. I planned to make the eye patches since I have plenty of supplies, but am thinking that maybe a quick trip to Let's Party (or somewhere) would be a lot less painful.
Things that made me think that I am not a teacher in a high school but instead...in some comedian's idea of hell...
--The boy in my 6th hour who was picking his nose and then eating it
--The boy in my 2nd hour who pulled out half of the tissue from the box...and then used it to wipe dog crap off the bottom of his shoe
Actually, I'm really enjoying this school year. My classes (most of them) are great, all seniors, and really fun to teach. My department colleagues and I are working on our National Board Certification (which is the teacher god's version of hell), which is pretty much all consuming and very stressful, but I would say is going well overall....we are in a cohort group and I think Kami, Paul, and I have a pretty good handle on things, especially when we go to our cohort meetings.
Andre is doing great. He'll be home on Nov. 24 for his coaching trip. That'll last for 8 weeks and then he'll go back to Shelton for graduation January 29 & 30. There is an open house thing on the 29th and then graduation will be in the Capitol Rotunda on the 30th (fancy :-). I've already put in for those days off. Hopefully it'll be easy to get there (no crazy snow or anything), but I told my mom that there is pretty much NOTHING that will keep from attending.
For my local friends, I think that the girls and I are going to branch out from trick-or-treating downtown this year. They want to be able to knock and say the magic words. So, I think we're going to head out with my sister and family.
Andre and I are going to a costume party....costume ideas are welcome. Ideas that involve him being a trooper and me being a prostitute will not be entertained (not because I am above that sort of thing, but he'd get in trouble...hahaha).
